Metta began in 2019 as a grantmaking foundation intent on supporting nonprofits doing the hard work to make our world more just, safe and equitable.
A volunteer board of six members researches and selects nonprofit organizations to receive grants. We do not solicit applications widely, given limited resources, rather seek out organizations our members know and respect.
Always we have sought to support structural change, rather than meeting only immediate needs. We have prioritized small non-profits that may fly under the radar of larger funding organizations. We believe that small interventions can have a big impact on people’s lives.

Our Focus
Our initial focus has been on helping women and families. They are the most vulnerable people, and yet the most powerful in their influence over society. Over time, our funding areas have grown to include Education, Water in Africa, Buddhist organizations, Economic Development, and Environment.
